The 433-strong catalogue for the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale at Doncaster is now online. Set for Aug. 23-24 at 10 a.m. each day, the sale has enjoyed a good run of late with its alumni, with G2 Superlative S. hero Isaac Shelby (GB) (Night Of Thunder {Ire}) the latest poster child. The 2021 edition has already yielded 43 winners sold through the ring last year, tops of all juvenile sales up to this point in the season.
Some of the highlights include an Al Kazeem (GB) half-brother to Isaac Shelby as lot 75; as well as G2 Coventry S. hero Bradsell (GB) (Tasleet {GB})'s half-brother by Ulysses (Ire) (lot 213). Of the 13 Premier Yearling Sale graduates that have won at black-type level this year so far, alum El Caballo (GB) (Havana Gold {Ire}), who won the G2 Sandy Lane S., has a Havana Grey (GB) half-sister entered as lot 234.
Havana Grey's progeny are flying on the racecourse, and he also has lot 52, a filly out of G2 Lowther S. heroine Infamous Angel (GB) (Exceed And Excel {Aus}). Lot 74 is a Too Darn Hot (GB) three-parts brother to Group 2 winner and Group 1-placed Aljamaaheer (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}); while fresh off of siring his first Northern Hemisphere-bred group winner, Zoustar (Aus) has a colt (lot 97) out of Group 3 scorer Lightening Quick (GB) (Frankel {GB}). Maureen (Ire) (Holy Roman Emperor {Ire}), a dual Group 3 winner, has her filly by Showcasing (GB) (lot 117) entered; and Wootton Bassett (GB)'s son of Miss Minding (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}) (lot 129) is from the family of Classic winners Minding (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) and Tuesday (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}). Other standouts are a Kingman (GB) colt (lot 187) out of a full-sister to Group 1 winner Pedro The Great (Henrythenavigator) and a half-sister to fellow Group 1 winner and sire Footstepsinthesand (GB); a colt (lot 269) from the family of Group 2 hero and multiple Group 1-placed Zousain (Aus) (Zoustar {Aus}) by Frankel (GB); and a Cracksman (GB) filly (lot 341) out of Group 3 victress Ashadihan (GB) (Kyllachy {GB}).
All yearlings sold will be eligible for entry in next year's £250,000 Harry Beeby Premier Yearling S. which has been rebranded this year in honour of the company's late chairman. The unique Premier Prizes, offered for the first-time last year, will again be attached to this year's race at York in August, awarding a free horse and a York hospitality package to the winning owners, as well as a free six-month lease of a two-stall horsebox to the winning trainer from Theault.
Goffs UK Managing Director Tim Kent said, “The Premier Sale has a long history of 2-year-old success and the fact that it's currently the leading sale this season thus far for 2-year-old winners sold is a huge achievement given last year's sale catalogued less than half that of some of the larger yearling sales on the calendar. That statistic clearly highlights Premier's enduring reputation of producing early winners, and high-class ones at that headed by Isaac Shelby.
“The Doncaster yearling ethos has always been to focus on quality, precocity and athleticism and we have very much stayed true to that mantra when inspecting yearlings with our vendors and compiling this catalogue. The result is another selection of sharp, commercial 2-year-old types of quality and we are looking forward to presenting the Class of '22 to buyers. We have also amassed a strong representation from leading sires with yearlings by Frankel, Invincible Spirit (Ire), Kingman, Night Of Thunder (Ire) and Wootton Bassett along with sizable numbers from the likes of Dark Angel (Ire), Kodiac, Showcasing etc., ensuring plenty of quality across the two-days.
“The next few weeks will see us market this catalogue to a global audience and we look forward to welcoming buyers to Doncaster from around the world on 23 – 24 August.”
