Des Ailes (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}), the first foal out of 2014 G1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches/G1 Prix de Diane heroine Avenir Certain (Fr) (Le Havre {Ire}), graduated at first asking despite blowing the start at Hanshin on Sunday (VIDEO). The 3-year-old raced last barring one rival through the early stages and had improved to fourth-last after the first half-mile. Traveling ominously well despite needing to pass a wall of horses 300 metres from home, she split horses decisively with two furlongs remaining and unleashed a furious turn of foot to collar the colt Narita Zakura (Jpn) (Just a Way {Jpn}) just shy of the winning post to win by a half-length. Her dam, bred in France by Elisabeth Vidal, brought €45,000 as an Arqana August Yearling in 2012 on the bid of Jean-Claude Rouget, who would later train the bay. Avenir Certain won her first six starts including the aforementioned French filly Classics and she was also third in the G1 Falmouth S. across the channel and second in the G1 Prix Jean Romanet. She made the majority of her starts for owners Ecurie Antonio Caro and Gerard Augustin-Normand. The latter bought into Avenir Certain after her second start.
