Ballyhane Stud were able to tick an important box for their first-crop sire Soldier's Call (GB) on Saturday as his daughter Dawn Charger (Ire) captured Chantilly's G3 Prix Eclipse. Runner-up in ParisLongchamp's G3 Prix d'Arenberg over five furlongs last month, Saif Mohammad Alketbi and Elaine Burke's €40,000 Tatts Ireland September graduate travelled easily for Pierre-Louis Jamin close to the early pace. In front before two out, the 9-2 shot had first run on the strong-staying Laulne (Fr) (Starspangledbanner {Aus}) and found the line a neck ahead of that rival to cap a stellar week for the Karl Burke stable.

Jamin, who was enjoying his first group win as a rider, said, “We knew that she had a great chance coming here. She had run a very good race last time and we felt then that maybe she had needed the race on that occasion and that she had improved since. I had no doubt she would handle six, she had previously in England and although I moved a bit soon and she was getting tired inside the last 100 yards, she has a big heart.”

Pedigree Notes

Dawn Charger, who prior to her French forays had won at Ascot and Carlisle before finishing seventh in the G3 Albany S. at Royal Ascot, is out of Jim Bolger's unraced Dushlan {Ire}) (New Approach {Ire}) who also produced that owner-breeder's Listed Martin Molony S.-placed 3-year-old Serious Challenge (Ire) (Fracas {Ire}) who was fourth in last year's G2 Champions Juvenile S. at Leopardstown. From the family of the G1 Prix de la Foret-winning sire Septieme Ciel, the G1 Prix Marcel Boussac heroine Macoumba (Mr. Prospector), the G1 Prix de la Salamandre-winning champion filly Maximova (Fr) (Green Dancer), her filly foal is by Verbal Dexterity (Ire).
