Enable to Bypass York, Run in September S.

Dual G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe heroine Enable (GB) (Nathaniel {Ire}) will bypass an intended start at York and instead run in the Sept. 5 G3 September S., according to Juddmonte Racing Manager Teddy Grimthorpe. The Juddmonte colourbearer had originally been under consideration for the G1 Juddmonte International S. or the G1 Yorkshire Oaks in late August, but the Kempton 2400-metre event is now her target. The champion is eyeing a second title in the September, held over the all-weather, as she won it in 2018.

“Prince Khalid has decided that Enable's next start will be the September S. [a] Group 3 at Kempton on Sept. 5,” Grimthorpe said in a statement. “As has been stated, the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe remains her main objective.”

Enable is exiting a third win in the G1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth S., after running second in last season's Arc and the July 5 G1 Coral-Eclipse S. at Sandown. If she had contested the Juddmonte International, she would be facing Ghaiyyath (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}), who won the 10-furlong Coral-Eclipse in good style. Arguably however, the Yorkshire Oaks would have provided even stiffer competition, as outstanding dual English Classic heroine Love (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) is a certainty for that event, having won the Oaks by an impressive nine lengths on July 4.

Added Grimthorpe on the appeal of the Kempton feature, “The Kempton race worked well a couple of years ago. Obviously the temptation of York was quite a serious one, but we've always made it perfectly clear that the Arc is her main objective.

“Whoever turns up in the Yorkshire Oaks, you are going to have a tough race–it's a Group 1. In theory, she should have a slightly easier task in a Group 3. Coupled with that, she's won an Arc off the September S.–so from that point of view, that is a positive, and really we are just trying to give her every chance to get to the Arc in the best possible shape. The four weeks' timing of the Kempton race before the Arc is probably spot on as well.”
