Django Freeman Takes the Bavarian Classic

Django Freeman's sire, the late Campanologist | Racing Post

By

Runner-up in the G3 Preis des Winterfavoriten at Cologne in October, Django Freeman (Ger) (Campanologist) emerged with the bragging rights all to himself in the G3 Bavarian Classic at Munich on Wednesday. Always travelling strongly tracking the front pair, the 9-5 favourite was just waiting for the instruction from Lukas Delozier and when given it in the straight grabbed Quest the Moon (Ger) (Sea the Moon {Ger}) a furlong from home and stretched out for a 1 1/2-length verdict.

Django Freeman, whose sole defeat came narrowly at the hands of Noble Moon (Ger) (Sea the Moon {Ger}), is the second 3-year-old group winner for his sadly-deceased sire within days after Sunday's G3 Dr Busch-Memorial success of Winterfuchs (Ger). He is the first black-type winner for his dam Donna Lavinia (Ger) (Acatenango {Ger}), who is herself a half-sister to the G1 Grosser Dallmayr-Preis hero Durban Thunder (Ger) (Samum {Ger}). Donna Lavinia's 2-year-old colt by Adlerflug (Ger) is named Dicaprio (Ger), while she also has a yearling colt by Pastorius (Ger) named Iota Du Large (Fr).
