Daughter of Omaha Beach Earns Diploma at Del Mar

Freshman sire Omaha Beach | Spendthrift – Autry Graham

4th-Del Mar, $84,500, Msw, 9-10, 2yo, f, 5 1/2f, 1:04.77, ft, 1/2 length.
SANDY BOTTOM (f, 2, Omaha Beach–Starlit Daydream, by Can the Man) went off the 3-1 second choice following a string of sharp morning moves, including the latest a bullet :46.80 (1/92) drill at Del Mar Sept. 3. Losing a step or two after bumping at the start, the filly was soon hustled to the front, carving out a :21.92 opening quarter. Stilling running strong turning for home, Sandy Bottom had enough left in reserve to hold off Blissterinthesun (Mitole) by a half length at the wire. Third-place finisher Ur In Trouble (Maximus Mischief) rounded out the trifecta for Spendthrift's sire roster. Sandy Bottom is the first foal produced by Starlit Daydream, who saw her career curtailed by injury after making only two starts for trainer Todd Pletcher and Spendthrift Farm and the Empire Racing Club. Bred to Omaha Beach during the stallion's first season at Spendthrift, the half-sister to GSW Gas Station Sushi (Into Mischief) was barren last season but produced a colt by Cloud Computing this term. She was bred back to Greatest Honour. This is the 10th winner for freshman sire Omaha Beach (by War Front). Sales history: $145,000 Ylg '22 KEESEP. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $49,200.
