Madcap Escapade Baby Brings $1.7 Million

Southern Equine went to $1.7 million to buy out partners Bruce Lunsford and John Sikura's Hill 'n' Dale Farm for a weanling filly by Pulpit. The bay is the first foal of GISW Madcap Escapade (Hennessy), who was purchased by the trio with this foal in utero for $6 million at this auction last year. Southern Equine owned a 25-percent share in the foal before making the seven-figure bid.

Sly Like a Butterfly

Sly Butterfly didn't go through the Keeneland ring until late in Saturday's session of the November sale, but she proved worth the wait. The eight-year-old mare, in foal to Macho Uno, brought a final bid of $410,000 from John Adger on behalf of Stonerside Stable. The stakes winner was consigned by Hidden Brook, as agent for Adena Springs.

Manduro's Dam Brings 3M Guineas from Darley at Tatts

A late addition to the Tatts December catalogue, Mandellicht (Ire) (Be My Guest), the dam of European superstar Manduro (Ger) (Monsun {Ger}), was hammered down to Richard O'Gorman Bloodstock for 3-million guineas during yesterday's session. Giving John Ferguson a breather, O'Gorman was bidding on behalf of Sheikh Mohammed's operation. Also the dam of SW & G1SP Mandela (Ger) (Acatenango {Ger}), the 13-year-old Mandellicht is once again in foal to Monsun.

Padua Wins Battle for Friends Lake Colt

Bidding on behalf of his Padua Stables, owner Satish Sanan outlasted a group including Buzz Chace and West Point to land a colt from the first crop of Friends Lake (A.P. Indy). John Moynihan stayed busy at Barretts, signing an $800,000 ticket for hip 169, a Silver Deputy filly out of Duchess Kiss (Cox's Ridge), on behalf of Jess Jackson's Stonestreet Stables. Jerry Bailey consigned the filly as agent. The half-sister to MSW As You Like (Trempolino) was acquired by Gulf Coast Farm for $210,000 at KEESEP.

The three-day Part One of the William Inglis & Son Australian Easter Yearling Sale concluded at Newmarket Tuesday with brilliant results. The pyrotechnics were led by a Redoute's Choice (Aus) colt who was knocked down to Darley's John Ferguson for a sale-topping A$2.7 million.
