Southern Equine went to $1.7 million to buy out partners Bruce Lunsford and John Sikura's Hill 'n' Dale Farm for a weanling filly by Pulpit. The bay is the first foal of GISW Madcap Escapade (Hennessy), who was purchased by the trio with this foal in utero for $6 million at this auction last year. Southern Equine owned a 25-percent share in the foal before making the seven-figure bid.

Sly Butterfly didn't go through the Keeneland ring until late in Saturday's session of the November sale, but she proved worth the wait. The eight-year-old mare, in foal to Macho Uno, brought a final bid of $410,000 from John Adger on behalf of Stonerside Stable. The stakes winner was consigned by Hidden Brook, as agent for Adena Springs.

A late addition to the Tatts December catalogue, Mandellicht (Ire) (Be My Guest), the dam of European superstar Manduro (Ger) (Monsun {Ger}), was hammered down to Richard O'Gorman Bloodstock for 3-million guineas during yesterday's session. Giving John Ferguson a breather, O'Gorman was bidding on behalf of Sheikh Mohammed's operation. Also the dam of SW & G1SP Mandela (Ger) (Acatenango {Ger}), the 13-year-old Mandellicht is once again in foal to Monsun.

Bidding on behalf of his Padua Stables, owner Satish Sanan outlasted a group including Buzz Chace and West Point to land a colt from the first crop of Friends Lake (A.P. Indy). Consigned by Mike and Britt Mulligan's Leprechaun Racing, hip 33, a son of the Mt. John Moynihan stayed busy at Barretts, signing an $800,000 ticket for hip 169, a Silver Deputy filly out of Duchess Kiss (Cox's Ridge), on behalf of Jess Jackson's Stonestreet Stables. Jerry Bailey consigned the filly as agent. The half-sister to MSW As You Like (Trempolino) was acquired by Gulf Coast Farm for $210,000 at KEESEP.

Shortly after buying a son of Cozzene for $575,000 at Keeneland April, B Wayne Hughes was back in action again to take home a son of sprint champion Aldebaran for $675,000. The colt is a full brother to GISP Grace Anatomy.

The three-day Part One of the William Inglis & Son Australian Easter Yearling Sale concluded at Newmarket Tuesday with brilliant results. The pyrotechnics were led by a Redoute's Choice (Aus) colt who was knocked down to Darley's John Ferguson for a sale-topping A$2.7 million. Tuesday's session finished with an average of A$445,992 and included a phenomenal 17 yearlings selling for A$1 million or more. A Taylor Made-consigned filly by Giant's Causeway--Alidiva (Ire), by Chief Singer {Ire}) was purchased for undisclosed European clients by Troy Steve Bloodstock Ltd. for $1.25 million, top price for a filly as of 3 p.m at Keeneland. Bred in Kentucky by Charles H. Wacker, the chestnut, named Alioonagh, is a full sister to the talented GSW Oonagh Maccool (Ire) and is a half to European champions Taipan (Ire), Ali-Royal (Ire) and Sleepytime (Ire).

Off the Hook's Joe Appelbaum, bidding on behalf of Paula C Racing Stable, purchased a Macho Uno colt for $400,000--the top price for a yearling midway through Sunday's session. Consigned by Hidden Brook for breeder Adena Springs, the colt is a son of MSW & GSP Bag Lady Jane, a daughter of Canadian champion Deputy Jane West.

John Magnier purchased a Sadler's Wells--By Charter (GB) colt for 500,000gns. The bay is three-quarters to Anton Chekhov (GB) (Montjeu (Ire), GSW-Fr & SW-Ire; and half to First Charter (GB), GSW-Eng & G1SP-Ire; and Private Charter (GB), SW & GSP-Eng, G1SP-Ity.
