TDN Rising Star Dortmund (Big Brown) can put a tidy bow around a magical season for owner Kaleem Shah, as the burly chestnut is the marquee name in a field of five set for Saturday's GI Los Alamitos Futurity, a race won by trainer Bob Baffert no fewer than a half-dozen times. Mike Kane was on site in Albany Wednesday afternoon as the Gaming Facility Location Board announced where in the Empire State new casinos would be constructed. But the news was not welcomed by all, including the state's horse racing interests....

The New York State Gaming Commission approved casino-resort plans in three of the possible four locations today, and decided not to permit any in Orange County, the county under consideration which was closest to New York City. Those chosen were the Lago Casino in Tyre, New York, near Finger Lakes Racetrack; Rivers Casino in Schenectady, about 20 miles from Saratoga; and the Montreign Casino and Adelaar Resort in Sullivan County in the Catskills.

A big step in New York's march toward full-scale commercial casinos will take place Wednesday in Albany when four upstate sites are announced.
