Ulrich Zerrath's Belcarra (Ire) (Estidhkaar {Ire}) ran 2 1/2 lengths off Libre (Ire) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}) when second going seven furlongs in her Oct. 4 debut at Hannover and exacted revenge on that reopposing rival to secure a first black-type success for her freshman sire (by Dark Angel {Ire}) in Sunday's Listed Sea The Moon-Rennen over the same strip back at the Neue Bult venue. Settled off Libre's tempo in mid division through halfway, the 67-10 chance made stealthy headway in the straight and kept on strongly once called into action with 1 1/2 furlongs remaining to edge Nottingham (Ger) (Excelebration {Ire}) by a neck in the dying strides.
“I know the horse very well from her work at home and I have ridden her often,” rider Maxim Pecheur told GaloppOnline. “I left her alone to come home on her own once I realised that we couldn't beat the winner here on debut last time. She is a very calm horse, she has a lot of self-confidence and fought to the very last metre.” Trainer Markus Klug added, “It was really exciting and I would have been happy if we had been placed. I'm so happy for the owner, who has only recently started having horses with me. She came to me in the summer and couldn't have done any better than she has done so far. She is completely uncomplicated and fights all the way to the line.”
Belcarra is also the first black-type scorer for Bellacoola (Ger) (Lomitas {GB}), whose six prior winners include Listed Prix Hampton runner-up Prinzde Glas (Ire) (Verglas {Ire}) and Listed Listowel S. placegetter Winiata (Ire) (Society Rock {Ire}). Bellacoola, who has a yearling colt by Alhebayeb (Ire) to come, is kin to G2 Grosse Europa-Meile and G3 Oettingen-Rennen victor Bernardon (Ger) (Suave Dancer), G3 Preis der Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe winner Budai (Ger) (Dai Jin {GB}) and Listed Fruhjahrszuchtpreis der Dreijaehrigen scorer Basalios (Ger) (Sternkonig {Ire}). Belcarra's third dam Brigida (Ger) (Priamos {Ger}) landed the G3 German 1000 Guineas and Listed Preis des Casino Baden-Baden victor Bueno (Ger) (Lombard {Ger}) heads her progeny list. Brigida is also the ancestress of the stakes-producing G2 Prix Robert Papin victrix Boccassini (Ger) (Artan {Ire}) and Listed Steventon S. victor What About Carlo (Fr) (Creachadoir {Ire}).
