Greg Avioli, an industry veteran who at various times has served as CEO and President of Breeders' Cup Ltd. and CEO of The Stronach Group, has been hired to fill the position of CEO of the Thoroughbred Owners of California (TOC).
An attorney and legislative expert in addition to his industry experience, Avioli has served the TOC Board as a senior adviser for the past year on gaming legislation, advanced deposit wagering and strategic planning. Avioli, who will assume his new position effective July 1, 2016, was also chief operating officer of the National Thoroughbred Racing Association and president of HORSEPAC, the U.S. horse industry's federal political action committee.
“Given the many opportunities and challenges now facing the organization, we felt it was important to bring in additional executive experience on the management team,” commented TOC Board Chairman Mike Pegram. “Greg has decades of experience at the highest levels of our industry and proven leadership in legislative and regulatory affairs.”
Added Avioli, “I'm excited to work with Mike Pegram and the full TOC Board and staff to improve the overall racing experience for owners in California.”
TOC is a non-profit corporation that serves as the CHRB-recognized representative of Thoroughbred owners in the California horse racing industry.
