Robert Ng's Success Days (Ire) (Jeremy), winner of the G3 Ballysax S. and G3 Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial earlier this year, is working towards a return to the races and likely to resurface in October, according to trainer Ken Condon. Success Days was supplemented to the G1 Epsom Derby after his pair of stakes scores but finished last of 12 in that Classic after sustaining an injury and hasn't raced since.
“Success Days is doing well and is in his third week back cantering,” said Condon. “He also swam for a few weeks before that. He didn't put on much weight and we are aiming at a Group 1 in Germany in November [Grosser Preis von Bayern Nov. 1]. Soft ground is very important to him and I would like to get in a prep run in October about three or four weeks beforehand. There is a race in Newbury that could suit him.”
Meanwhile another Irish-trained former Derby fancy, Sheikh Hamdan's Zawraq (Ire) (Shamardal), will be out for the remainder of the year but will likely point to a 2016 campaign, according to racing manager Angus Gold. Zawraq is unbeaten in two starts and won the Listed Leopardstown 2000 Guineas Trial S. in April but was ruled out of the Derby after suffering a crack in his off-fore cannon bone.
“He's still at Derrinstown Stud recuperating,” said Gold. “I saw him three weeks ago and he was just walking. He's fine, but after they found the crack in a joint it's going to be three months before he goes into training, so he will have missed this season. He's too good a horse to rush back for not very much, so we'll give him plenty of time and hopefully get him ready for next season.”
