A total of 145 2-year-olds in training comprise the catalogue for the Arqana May Breeze-Up Sale to be held Friday, May 13 beginning at 2pm at the company's Deauville sales complex. The horses will be put through their paces under-tack at the Deauville-La Touques Racecourse on Thursday, May 12 at midday.
No fewer than 80 different stallions, from either side of the Atlantic, are represented by juveniles. Major European-based sires include Dark Angel (Ire), Invincible Spirit (Ire), Kingman (GB), the late Le Havre (Ire), Lope de Vega (Ire), Sea The Stars (Ire) and Wootton Bassett, while those stallions based in America include Accelerate, the in-demand Bolt d'Oro, Candy Ride (Arg), Curlin, Classic Empire, Good Magic and Mendelssohn.
The Arqana Breeze-Up has become an increasingly reliable source of important horses on the international racing scene. Malavath (Ire) (Mehmas {Ire}) was purchased by David Redvers at last year's May Sale and posted a record of 2-2-1 from five starts for Francis-Henri Graffard, including a victory in the G2 Criterium de Maisons-Laffitte ahead of a cracking runner-up effort in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf at Del Mar in November. Other graduates of the 2021 who hold Classic aspirations this spring include Cash (Ire) (Shamardal), the Group 3-placed Chancellery (Ire) (Medaglia d'Oro), Knight of Honour (Ire) (Decorated Knight {GB}), Thunder Road (Ire) (Night of Thunder {GB}) and Tylos (Fr) (Night of Thunder {Ire}).
