One of the lesser-exposed members of the line-up for the 100th renewal of Sunday's G2 Wempe German 1000 Guineas, Stall Raffelberg's Lancade (GB) (Areion {Ger}) was the one to hit the heights in the Dusseldorf Classic. Successful over 8 1/2 furlongs on her seasonal bow at this venue May 16, the 11-1 shot was settled in mid-division early against the rail by Adrie de Vries before being angled out in early straight. Swamping her rivals with 150 metres remaining, the Yasmin Almenrader-trained chestnut readily asserted for a comfortable 1 1/4-length success from No Limit Credit (Ger) (Night of Thunder {Ire}), who nosed out Rose of Kildare (Ire) (Make Believe {GB}) in third.

Lancade, who had won on her debut at Mulheim in August, had been disappointing when sixth of seven in the Preis der Herbstauktion, a BBAG auction race at Dortmund in September. She had got loose in the parade ring beforehand and was caught by Andreas Suborics, trainer of the eventual runner-up No Limit Credit. Adrie de Vries said of the winner, “She had been working great and had won impressively last time. She has great speed, you don't have to panic during the race.”

The dam is the listed-placed La Sabara (GB) (Sabiango {Ger}), a full-sister to the GIII Orchird H. winner La Luna de Miel (Ger) (Monsun {Ger}) and the listed scorer La Salvita (Ger) by Areion's sire Big Shuffle. The third dam La Candela (Ger) (Alzao) is kin to the triple group 1 winner and leading sire Lomitas (GB). From the damline of the tap-root mare Love In (GB) (Crepello {GB}), La Sabara also has an as-yet unnamed yearling filly by Free Eagle (Ire) and a filly foal by Zarak (Fr).
