Vincent Scuderi's Paulassilverlining (Ghostzapper) seeks her third straight graded victory Wednesday in Saratoga's GII Honorable Miss H. Kicking off this term with a 9 1/4-length demolition of an Aqueduct optional claimer field Feb. 11, the Michelle Nevin trainee was second next out in that venue's Correction S. Mar. 19 and returned to winning ways next with a defeat of MGISW “TDN Rising Star” Cavorting (Bernardini) and the reopposing Bar of Gold (Medaglia d'Oro) in the GIII Distaff H. Apr. 17. The bay was last seen scoring another decisive victory in Belmont's GIII Vagrancy H. May 21.
Chester and Mary Broman homebred Bar of Gold followed her third in the Distaff H. with a 1 1/2-length success over fellow New York-bred Haveyougoneaway (Congrats) in a muddy renewal of the state-bred Critical Eye S. at Belmont May 30. She was last seen finishing third behind Grade I winners By the Moon (Indian Charlie) and Wavell Avenue (Harlington) in the GIII Bed O' Roses H. in Elmont June 25. The John Kimmel pupil seems comfortable with the Saratoga surface, having finished second in both the GI Test S. and GII Prioress S. here last year and working three furlongs in :36 2/5 (2/20) over the local strip July 2.
“I think she is doing very well right now and is sitting on a very good performance,” Kimmel said. “Obviously, Paulassilverlining is the horse to beat. We got hung pretty far wide when we ran against Paula in the Distaff. Paula got through on the inside and she had the perfect trip and set-up. Actually, I was the furthest outside, because Cavorting was also inside of me. I thought our filly ran pretty darn good that day.”
Haveyougoneaway enjoyed a successful winter in Hot Springs, winning both the American Beauty S. and Spring Fever S. and finishing second in the Carousel S. for Champion Racing Stable Inc. and trainer Allen Milligan. Privately purchased by Sequel Racing and transferred to conditioner Tom Morley, the chestnut was trying a mile for the first time when second in the Critical Eye and returned to previous form when cut back to six furlongs with a 2 3/4-length victory in the state-bred Dancin Renee S. at Belmont July 3.
