Champion racemare Zenyatta (Street Cry {Ire})'s 2016 foal, a colt by War Front, passed away Wednesday morning due to complications of meconium aspiration syndrome, Team Zenyatta and Lane's End Farm announced in a statement today.
“We express our deep gratitude to Dr. Peter Morresey and the professionals at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital who worked tirelessly to support the mare and foal. Zenyatta is in good health and back home at Lane's End Farm,” the statement read.
Zenyatta, the 2010 Horse of the Year and an earner of $7.3 million on the racetrack, is responsible for the 4-year-old colt Cozmic One (Bernardini) and the 3-year-old colt Ziconic (Tapit), both of whom are currently in training. Her 2014 War Front filly passed away due to a paddock accident as a weanling.
