Myrtlewood Goes To Undefeated Echo Sound

Echo Sound | Coady Media

Now undefeated in three starts, Echo Sound picked up her first stakes victory Friday when taking the Myrtlewood Stakes at Keeneland. A debut winner at Ellis Park in early August, the daughter of freshman sire Echo Town (by Speighstown) then wired an optional claiming field as the even-money favorite at Churchill Downs over this same six furlong distance Sept. 12. Friday's 3-1 second choice behind 5-2 favorite Trust Fund Philly Echo Sound enjoyed a near-perfect pace set up, stalking from third along the rail as a pair of leaders dueled several lengths in front of the rest of the field. Angled off the fence into the far turn, she began to gradually reel that pair in until just Praying was left to contend with past the furlong pole. Still charging from the outside, Echo Sound pulled that runner back to her at the sixteenth marker and cleared off nicely to come home alone on the wire.

Her sire's second stakes winner, the winner is a half to a pair of graded stakes runners in Pick of the Litter (Kitten's Joy) and Deer District (Oscar Performance). Eagle Sound, a winning daughter of Fusaichi Pegasus who RNA'd for $725,000 as a 2-year-old in training in 2005, has produced 11 foals of which all made the races and nine have become winners. She has not been reported bred since producing Echo Sound in 2022. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by FanDuel TV.
