Fandom Takes The Mahony At Saratoga For Brad Cox

Fandom | Sarah Andrew

Fandom showed talent right from the start-winning by 6 3/4 lengths at Keeneland for Wesley Ward as a 2-year-old. A trip to Royal Ascot followed in the G2 Coventry Stakes but he weakened to 11th and went to the sidelines for nearly a year before coming off the bench back at Keeneland to take the Palisades Stakes Apr. 7. A barn change to Brad Cox after that start saw Fandom hit the board in the GIII Quick Call Stakes over course and distance July 14 and earned the son of Showcasing 4-1 odds Sunday. Racing with blinkers on from the rail, Fandom flashed early speed but had to contend with Run Carson from the get go. The pair dueled one another through fractions of :21.53 and :44.49 to the top of the stretch and Fandom had just enough to last over a host a closing challengers to hit the line in front. The jockey aboard third-place finisher Apollo Ten lodged a post-race objection against Dylan Davis and Fandom but the stewards disallowed it and the results stood.

“Very happy with that win,” said Blake Cox, assistant to Brad Cox. “He added blinkers today. We didn't think he would be on the lead, but wanted to get him more involved and it worked out well.”

One of 70 stakes winners for Showcasing, the English-bred Fandom is out of a half to G1SW Lezoo (GB) (Zoustar {Aus}) who sold for 2.2m guineas at the 2023 Tattersalls December Mare Sale. Brogan has a 2-year-old filly yet to race by Masar (Ire) and a yearling Zoustar (Aus) filly. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by FanDuel TV.
