Sunday sees Deauville's August Festival get underway and with it Baron Edouard De Rothschild's Mqse De Sevigne (Ire) (Siyouni {Fr}) as she bids for back-to-back renewals of the G1 Prix Rothschild. Also successful in the G1 Prix Jean Romanet and in this term's G1 Prix d'Ispahan at ParisLongchamp, the Andre Fabre-trained homebred is the logical choice here having had her most recent form boosted by Horizon Dore (Fr) (Dabirsim {Fr}) at Royal Ascot. She looks a solid proposition re-opposed by Yeguada Centurion's increasingly disappointing Blue Rose Cen (Ire) (Churchill {Ire}), who was fifth behind her in the d'Ispahan, and the Wertheimers' G1 Prix de la Foret heroine Kelina (Ire) (Frankel {GB}) who has to step up.
Fantastic Moon Takes Aim at the Dallmayr-Preis…
In Munich's G1 Grosser Dallmayr-Preis, Liberty Racing's Fantastic Moon (Ger) (Sea The Moon {Ger}) bids for a second top-level victory having conquered last year's G1 Deutsches Derby. He looked back to his best last time when taking the G2 Grosser Preis der Badischen Wirtschaft rescheduled at Cologne, but has to give nine pounds weight-for-age to Eckhard Sauren's G3 Grosser Preis der Wirtschaft winner Penalty (Ger) (Frankel {GB}) and also encounters Victorious Racing's G3 La Coupe winner Calif (Ger) (Areion {Ger}).
More Deauville Intrigue…
Deauville also stages the six-furlong G3 Prix de Cabourg, the G1 Prix Morny trial where Juddmonte's impressive Listed Prix Yacowlef winner Apollo Fountain (GB) (No Nay Never) re-opposes the Wertheimers' TDN Rising Star Polyvega (Ire) (Lope De Vega {Ire}) who beat her by 2 1/2 lengths on debut at Chantilly last month. It will be fascinating to see how they measure up here, with the Fabre runner having that vital extra experience under her belt since their first encounter. Wathnan Racing's G2 Coventry Stakes third Columnist (GB) (Ardad {Ire}) and Gousserie Racing and Sandrine Gavrois's G3 Prix du Bois third Daylight (Fr) (Earthlight {Ire}) will provide all-important context. The other pattern-race for juveniles is the G3 Prix Six Perfections over seven, where the trio of Angeal (Ire) (Wootton Bassett {GB}), Relaxx (Fr) (City Light {Fr}) and Bravo Bay (Fr) (New Bay {GB}) who met at Saint-Cloud in May re-oppose having all won next time.
