Ellis Park's opening-day card was conducted without fans Thursday after the track was closed to the general public due water issues affecting the frontside of the racetrack and the facility remained closed Thursday night with a decision on Friday's opening still to be made.
“In the best interests of our guest experience and safety, we made the difficult decision this morning to conduct today's race card without patrons,” General Manager Matt Pressley said Thursday. “I can't say enough about our staff here at Ellis Park and volunteers within the Henderson community for helping us hold live racing today. While we are disappointed to miss sharing part of opening week with our fans, we will continue to share updates and look forward to opening the track to guests again as soon as possible.”
On Wednesday evening, strong storms hit the racetrack, causing a temporary power outage to the grandstand that affected the water supply. Once power was restored, the water levels were insufficient to operate the racing and gaming facility, which will not reopen to the public until water levels return to normal.
