Guineas Hero Chaldean To Shuttle To Cambridge Stud This Year

Chaldean | Juddmonte

Classic winner Chaldean (GB) (Frankel {GB}), who is standing his first season at Banstead Manor Stud in the UK, will shuttle to Cambridge Stud in New Zealand for the Southern Hemisphere breeding season, Juddmonte announced on Thursday. His fee will be NZ$35,000 + GST and his book will be limited to 120 mares.

One of only nine horses to complete the G1 Dewhurst and G1 2,000 Guineas double, Chaldean stands alongside his sire, the multiple champion sire Frankel, who completed the double in 2010/2011. They are the only father-son pair to complete that achievement. Chaldean also won the G2 Champagne S. and G3 Acomb S. during his racing days.

Simon Mockridge, general manager for Juddmonte in the UK, said, “The exceptionally talented, good-looking Chaldean has been immensely popular during his first season at Banstead Manor Stud. With the ongoing support for Frankel and his incomparable statistics as they stand, Cambridge Stud have given us the perfect opportunity to send Chaldean to the Southern Hemisphere where we feel his precociousness and physical type will appeal. We look forward to working with the team at the internationally renowned Cambridge Stud ahead of the Southern Hemisphere season.”

The son of Suelita (GB) (Dutch Art {GB}) was bred by Whitsbury Manor Stud and was acquired by Juddmonte for 550,000gns as a foal out of the Tattersalls December Foal Sale. He is a half-brother to four black-type horses, three of which are stakes winners led by G2 Mill Reef S. winner Alkumait (GB) (Showcasing {GB}) and that stallion's full-brother, stakes winner Get Ahead (GB), who was second in the G1 Flying Five S.

Henry Plumptre, Cambridge Stud's CEO added, “Cambridge Stud is delighted to secure the services of Chaldean for the New Zealand breeding industry. His pedigree, with a strong emphasis on two- and three-year-old speed, is perfect for our market and racing programme. He is a magnificent type, and his conformation will be enthusiastically received by Australasian breeders.

“Having a signature Group 1 at two, the Dewhurst S. and a three-year-old Classic, the 2,000 Guineas, to his name makes him an extremely attractive prospect. His sire, Frankel, is currently breaking all records as a stallion and the opportunity to secure his best two/year-old was a significant drawcard for us.”

Brendan Lindsay, who owns Cambridge Stud with his wife Jo, said, “Jo and I are very proud of the Cambridge Stud brand and welcome the opportunity of joining forces with a global brand like Juddmonte. We thank Juddmonte and their team for affording us this opportunity. We are excited to be able to offer an exceptional horse like Chaldean to our client base.”
