Kingfisher Out To Book Leger Ticket

Promising stayer Kingfisher (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) is set for his first outing since a brave and slightly unlucky second in the G1 Gold Cup at Royal Ascot in June. Aidan O'Brien plans to run the 4-year-old in the G3 Irish St. Leger Trial S. at The Curragh on Sunday.

Outlining plans the Ballydoyle handler commented, “Kingfisher will run in the Leger Trial on Sunday with a view to possibly coming back for the G1 Irish St Leger itself later in the year. He has had a good break since Royal Ascot where he ran a stormer and he is just ready to start back from that break. He is going to need the run and you would imagine that whatever he'll do on Sunday he should come forward a good bit for it.”

Kingfisher beat GIII American St. Leger runner up Panama Hat (GB) (Medicean {GB}) in the Listed Saval Beg S. at Leopardstown in June before a troubled passage saw him finish strongly late on to grab the runner up spot behind Trip To Paris (Ire) (Champs Elysees {GB}) at Ascot.

A surprising entrant in the race is the former British and Australian trained Sea Moon (GB) (Beat Hollow {GB}), now in the care of John Oxx. Winner of the G2 Hardwicke S. at Royal Ascot in 2012 and the G2 Herbert Power S. at Caulfield two years ago, the 7-year-old is reported back in good form after a worrying time. He almost died from shipping fever but he's a hardy customer,” Oxx explained. “We don't really know what to expect but he's a lovely horse and a beautiful mover.”
