The Fastest Horse of the Week for March 9, 2023 – Presented by WinStar

In a week loaded with 16 graded stakes from coast to coast, the “Fastest Horse of the Week” emerged from a 7 furlong allowance Saturday at Gulfstream Park. WHITE ABARRIO earned a 103 Beyer Speed Figure for his resounding 4 1/2-length victory in the allowance optional claimer for non-winners-of-two-other-than-maiden- or-claiming OR for horses that hadn't won since June 4, 2022. WHITE ABARRIO had previously taken a maiden, an allowance and two graded stakes, BUT he was eligible for the race because he hadn't won since the Florida Derby last April 2nd. So it was a perfect storm for WHITE ABARRIO, especially since his five career wins have all been at Gulfstream. WHITE ABARRIO is a Kentucky-bred product of Spendthrift Farm, which raced his dam Catching Diamonds and stood his sire Race Day, who was exported to Korea prior to the 2021 breeding season. The week's great racing saw 7 triple-digit Beyer Speed Figures in all, but, somewhat surprisingly, the allowance race made the top of the list.
