Champion American Pharoah (Pioneerof The Nile), sidelined since annexing the GI FrontRunner S. Sept. 27, is under consideration to return in either the GII San Felipe S. at Santa Anita Mar. 7 or the GII Rebel S. at Oaklawn Mar. 14.
The Zayat Stables homebred returned to the worktab with a three-furlong breeze in :36 1/5 at Santa Anita Feb. 2.
He missed the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile due to a suspensory-related injury.
“Either that or the Rebel,” trainer Bob Baffert said of the GI Del Mar Futurity hero's return. “He looks good. He'll come around quick. We have the Rebel, and the San Felipe. If all goes well, he'll be in one of those.”
