Edited Press Release
The Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation (TRF) is pleased to announce the election of Katie LaMonica to the organization's Board of Directors. The TRF board provides leadership for carrying out the Foundation's mission to provide sanctuary for retired racehorses no longer able to compete on the racetrack and to save them from possible neglect, abuse and slaughter.
“We are thrilled to welcome Katie to the Board,” said Patrick Mackay, President and Chairman of the TRF. “Her longstanding experience within the Thoroughbred industry and her commitment to philanthropy make her a perfect fit as we continue to work towards the betterment of our herd of retired racehorses.”
A native of Lexington, Kentucky, LaMonica has been involved in the Thoroughbred industry for over 20 years and has worked for Godolphin since 2003 in various capacities, most recently as the Charities Manager for America. In that role, she oversees the organization's global and local charitable initiatives.
“I am excited and privileged to join the TRF board,” said LaMonica. “The TRF was really the start of aftercare in the 80s and since its inception, it has provided many wonderful programs and outlets for OTTBs. More recently, the expansion of the TRF Second Chances Programs has filled a need for both human and horse, giving them a new purpose and a new start.”
