Owen Burrows had enjoyed the limelight last Saturday when Tabdeed (GB) (Havana Gold {Ire}) took the G3 Hackwood S. and he had something else to ponder a week on after Albasheer (Ire) (Shamardal) earned TDN Rising Star status at Doncaster. Starting the seven-furlong British Stallion Studs EBF Novice S. as a 17-2 shot, the chestnut was under restraint from David Probert from the break and suffered some barges as he tracked the group racing towards the rear. Shaken up to chase the fellow Shadwell representative Alablaq (Ire) (Lope de Vega {Ire}) approaching two out, the imposing homebred descendant of Height of Fashion (Fr) brushed that rival aside with 1 1/2 furlongs remaining and surged clear under hand riding to record a highly impressive 6 1/2-length debut success. Alablaq was coming here on the back of a debut second to the afternoon's Listed Pat Eddery S. winner Chindit (Ire) (Wootton Bassett {GB}), while there was another 1 3/4 lengths back to the newcomer Athers (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}), a full-brother to the G2 Summer Mile winner Aljamaaheer (Ire).
The dam Mutebah (Ire) (Marju {Ire}), who also has a yearling filly by Lope de Vega (Ire), was in training with John Hammond and finished third in the Listed Prix des Tourelles. She is a granddaughter of the Listed Pretty Polly S. runner-up Wijdan (Mr. Prospector) who was responsible for the GII New York S. winner and GI Diana S. third Makderah (Ire) (Danehill) and Oriental Fashion (Ire) by Mutebah's sire Marju who captured the G2 Premio Ribot before producing five stakes performers including the G3 City of Auckland Cup winner St Jean (Ire) (Teofilo {Ire}) and the sire Green Coast (Ire) (Green Desert) who was runner-up in the G2 Godolphin Mile. As mentioned above, the fourth dam is the legendary Height of Fashion, which links Albasheer to the operation's standard-bearers Nashwan, Nayef and Unfuwain.
