Brisnet.com Triple Crown Throwdown: Los Alamitos Derby

Visit brisnet.com

Ed DeRosa of Brisnet.com takes on TDN's Steve Sherack and Brian DiDonato as they handicap Triple Crown prep races plus the big three races themselves. The three will make $100 Win/Place bets in the preps and $200 Win/Place bets in the Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont. Highest bankroll at the end wins.

DeRosa – Ohio Derby ResultSprawl made a middle move and settled for fifth. Bankroll: $3540.

GIII Los Alamitos Derby – Believe me, I'd love to make a case for anyone but Uncle Chuck, and there used to be a time when backing a fast maiden stretching out against winners for the first time was a recipe for disaster, but we've seen this movie before from director Bob Baffert, and while the shelf life isn't all that long, it's almost always past the second start (e.g. Arrogate, Justify, Nadal, Charlatan, etc.). I'm not going to buck that kind of star power here. Uncle Chuck wins the Los Alamitos Derby. Selection: #4 Uncle Chuck (6-5).

Sherack – Ohio Derby Result – Well, plenty of other people were on Sprawl as expected, and we were all wrong. Bankroll: $2605.

GIII Los Alamitos Derby – Taking 2-5 on Uncle Chuck really isn't going to help me much here. I'll take a flyer on Great Power. He was impressive and highly regarded following his debut at Santa Anita last September, and couldn't have returned in a tougher optional claimer to kick off his sophomore campaign. Has every right to move forward at what has to be a square number. Selection: #2 Great Power (6-1).

DiDonato Ohio Derby Result – Ended up with Established after Soros scratched. No luck. Bankroll: $3755.

GIII Los Alamitos Derby – I can't say I've got anything brilliant to offer about this race, and defaulted to Anneau d'Or. He stepped forward on figures last time and now goes third off the bench. He just missed to Thousand Words in the GII Los Al Futurity here  last year, and always seemed like one who would really like nine furlongs–even if he hasn't been very competitive at that trip thus far. Selection: #5 Anneau d'Or (3-1).
