Becoming the latest freshman sire to get off the mark in Europe, Kildangan Stud-based The Last Lion (Ire) (by Choisir {Aus}), who stands at a fee of €7,500, joined the club at Hamilton on Wednesday. He was represented by the 2-1 favourite Kraken Power (Ire) in the British Stallions Studs EBF Maiden S., where the June 15 Pontefract second struck the front two out and was firmly in command for a 3 1/2-length dismissal of Abduction (Fr) (Acclamation {GB}).

KRAKEN POWER (IRE) (c, 2, The Last Lion {Ire}–Throne {GB}, by Royal Applause {GB}), who was runner-up on debut at Pontefract June 15, raced against the stand's rail just behind the early pace. Sent forward to take command two out, the 2-1 favourite stayed on to score by 3 1/2 lengths from Abduction (Fr) (Acclamation {GB}). In doing so, he became the first for his Kildangan Stud-based sire (by Choisir {Aus}), who stands at a fee of €7,500. “We always thought he was a very nice horse and things didn't go right for him at Pontefract,” trainer Iain Jardine commented. “He won really nicely there today and I think he'll get seven no problem–Jamie [Gormley] said he couldn't pull him up and that there was plenty in the tank.” The dam, whose yearling colt is by Profitable (Ire), is a half-sister to the G1 Nunthorpe S. and G2 Temple S. hero and proven sire Kyllachy (GB).
