'TDN Rising Star' Mia Mischief (Into Mischief) looks to win her fourth straight race and first at the graded level since capturing last term's GI Humana Distaff in Saturday's GIII Winning Colors S. back beneath the Twin Spires.
Closing out her 2019 campaign for the Heiligbrodts with a five-length victory in the track-and-trip Dream Supreme S. Nov. 1, she went through the ring at Fasig-Tipton a few days later, selling to Stonestreet Stables for $2.4 million. Barbara Banke returned the bay to the care of Steve Asmussen and she won her first start carrying the operation's gold-and-burgundy colors in an Oaklawn optional claimer Mar. 20. Mia Mischief made it three straight with a decisive score in the Carousel S. in Hot Springs Apr. 25, matching the 99 Beyer she earned in her 11-1 upset of the Humana Distaff last spring.
Winner of the GI Madison S. and GII Thoroughbred Club of America S. last term, Spiced Perfection (Smiling Tiger) was fourth to Covfefe (Into Mischief) in the GI Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint before capping off a strong season with a victory in Aqueduct's GIII Go For Wand H. Dec. 7. Last seen finishing fourth as the favorite in the GII Inside Information S. at Gulfstream Jan. 25, she has since been privately purchased by Haruya Yoshida and transferred from Peter Miller to Mark Casse.
Break Even (Country Day) has won seven of her nine starts and looks to take that record to eight for 10 Saturday. Capturing four stakes last term, including this track's GII Eight Belles S.–where she defeated Bell's The One (Majesticperfection)–the homebred finished second in Saratoga's GII Prioress S. Aug. 31 and was subsequently shelved for the season. Sixth in her Feb. 29 return in Oaklawn's Spring Fever S. Feb. 29, she returned to winning ways in a six-panel optional claimer there Apr. 18.
