The One-Eyed Wonder Horse Patch Retires to Old Friends
Over his three-year career, Patch stole the hearts of fans across the country, and was a success on the track as well, finishing third in the Belmont Stakes. Now, the gelding has been retired to Old Friends Farm in Lexington, Ky., where friends can come see the one-eyed fan favorite. The TDN's Katie Ritz caught up with Old Friends founder Michael Blowen to check in on Patch.
Patch arrived at Old Friends Farm Jan. 20 after a thorough check-up at Park Equine Hospital earlier in the year.
“Since the day he arrived, he's been really cool,” Blowen said. “With some of these horses, you hear stories about them at the track and then their private personality doesn't fit their public persona. But with Patch, you can do anything. You can tell he's received great care.”
