Patrick Owens will begin training out of the Authorized Yard at St Gatien Stables in Newmarket, the 25-year industry veteran announced on Tuesday. Originally a successful amateur jockey, the Galway, Ireland native started as an assistant to Luca Cumani, but has also spent time Stateside with Eddie Kenneally, with Mike Doyle in Canada, and Erwan Charpy in Dubai, as well as working for Joseph G. Murphy in Ireland and yards in New Zealand. Owens has spent the last six years pre-training for some of Newmarket's biggest stables, including John Gosden. He will be assisted by his partner Amy Stennett, a former leading amateur rider.
“I have learned a huge amount during my time with some of the most talented trainers around the world and more recently have enjoyed following the careers of some of the outstanding horses I have been lucky to pre-train,” said Owens in a statement. “I am excited to start training myself with a dual-purpose licence from the Authorized Yard, with the world-class gallops and facilities in Newmarket on hand, there is nowhere better to be based.”
