Tapit Colt on Top in Del Mar Debut

9th-Del Mar, $61,380, Msw, 9-1, 2yo, 6 1/2f, 1:17.58, ft.

MAGIC ON TAP (c, 2, Tapit&log=">Tapit–Aubby K {GISW, $435,004}, by Street Sense) was hammered down to 4-5 favoritism after impressing in the mornings at Del Mar and made good on that promise with a decisive debut victory. Breaking sharply, the gray pressed from a two-wide second as Truck Salesman (Can the Man) and Gray Magician (Graydar) dueled through an opening quarter in :22.47 and a half in :45.53 and ranged up to take control entering the far turn. Truck Salesman immediately called it a day, but Gray Magician fought on. The duo quickly rolled clear of the field and while Gray Magician gave it his best shot, he proved no match for Magic On Tap, who was driven clear by Drayden Van Dyke to a 2 1/2-length victory. It was 6 3/4 lengths back to third-place finisher Extra Hope (Shanghai Bobby), who was another 6 1/4 lengths clear of the next finisher. The winner's dam Aubby K, victress of the 2013 GI Humana Distaff and GII Inside Information S., was purchased by Jane Lyon's Summer Wind Farm for $2.4 million at the 2015 FTKNOV sale with this colt in utero. Magic On Tap's year-older full-brother is GSP 'TDN Rising Star' Principe Guilherme. Aubby K's most recent produce is a yearling filly named Twent Four K (Medaglia d'Oro) and she visited Tapit this spring. This is the extendedfamily of MGISW Room Service (More Than Ready). Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $36,000. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
