A weekend of racing which featured the $16-million GI Pegasus World Cup Invitational S. Saturday and a mandatory Rainbow 6 payout Sunday, set an all-sources handle record at Gulfstream Park. Handle for the weekend totaled $70.062 million, according to figures released by the track Sunday.
Saturday's all-sources handle of $41,983,881 was the largest single-day handle in Gulfstream's 79-year history, excluding Breeders' Cup days. Sunday's 12-race program produced a total handle of $28.079 million, with $15.788 million wagered on the 20-cent Rainbow 6.
The previous record for a two-program handle was set Florida Derby weekend last year when total wagering was $48.792 million, more than $8 million over 2016 figures.
Total handle on Gulfstream's Friday, Saturday and Sunday programs totaled a record $81.186 million.
“This weekend shows what fans should come to expect from The Stronach Group, not only in world-class racing and life-changing wagers, but in entertainment, fashion and food,” said Gulfstream General Manager Bill Badgett. “We had some incredible moments from our athletes on the track this weekend and some remarkable feedback from those attending the weekend program. We will continue to challenge ourselves to engage the public, support horsemen, and create memorable moments.”
