On the heels of a very successful series of yearling sale, both on the broader and regional markets, Fasig-Tipton kicks off the year's breeding stock sales when it hosts its Saratoga Fall Sale Monday at the Humphrey S. Finney Pavilion in upstate New York.
A total of 298 horses are catalogued for the single-session event. Hips 1-90 consist of broodmares and racing/broodmare prospects, hips 91-280 are weanlings and the sale concludes with 18 yearlings.
“We have good quality in this year's catalogue,” said Fasig-Tipton President Boyd Browning. “There are a number of mares in foal to leading national and regional sires that should draw significant interest. Additionally, this sale has developed into an excellent weanling market–we have nearly 190 weanlings catalogued this year–and the sire power is very good.”
A relatively new sale in just its sixth year of existence, the Saratoga Fall Sale has become an increasingly popular destination for buyers and consignors alike, especially those offering horses bred and/or foaled in the Empire State. After accounting for a total of five six-figure transactions in its first three years, four horses have exceeded the $100,000 mark in each of the last two auctions. The 2016 sale was topped by then 3-year-old filly Coronation Street (Street Cry {Ire}), a daughter of MGSW Sara Louise (Malibu Moon) sold in foal to Alpha who was purchased by prominent New York-based owner/breeder Chester Broman for $150,000.
