Tapizar Colt Remains Perfect with 'Rising Star' Performance

Lasting Legacy | A. Coglianese

Lasting Legacy (Tapizar) overcame a wide trip to graduate by a good-looking 5 1/4 lengths on debut at Monmouth Park July 21 and made good on that early promise with a “TDN Rising Star”-worthy performance at Belmont. Favored at 8-5 in this first try against winners, the $200,000 KEESEP buy blew the break and ran three wide near the back of the field through an opening quarter in :23.39. Advancing up the outside to be even with the leaders through a half in :46.34, the chestnut was five wide turning for home and displayed some greenness in the stretch, but punched clear once he switched leads to win impressively. It was three lengths back to MGSP runner-up True Timber (Mineshaft).

The winner is a half-brother to Miss Ella (Exchange Rate), MGSW, $615,334. His dam Sweet Tune (Woodman) is also responsible for a juvenile colt by Gio Ponti; a yearling colt by Medaglia d'Oro; and a weanling colt by Pioneerof the Nile. She was bred back to Frosted.

3rd-BEL, $75,460, Alw, 10-13, (NW1$X), 3yo/up, 7f, 1:22.06, ft.
