Oscietra (Aus) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}), the daughter of the legendary Black Caviar (Aus) (Bel Esprit {Aus}), is scheduled to make her second trip to the races in a 1000m maiden over the Geelong synthetic Aug. 11 after narrowly winning a Flemington jump out Friday morning (video).

“If she pulls up and eats well during the week she'll run on the all-weather,” trainer David Hayes told Racing and Sports. “We gave her a practice on it and loved it and she works on it at home. My gut feel is we'll get the maiden out of the way and then if she's racing well we'll be racing in black-type sprint races in the spring.”

Bred by Neil Werrett, Oscietra is the first foal from the treble Australian Horse of the Year and made one appearance at two, finishing third as the favourite up the Flemington straight Jan. 1 after setting a good pace. Luke Nolen was aboard for Friday's work, but is unavailable to ride at Geelong. Regan Bayliss, who partnered Oscietra in a July 26 trial, will take the call.
