Officials at the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) announced the appointment of three new members to its Board of Directors. The trio include: Bill Mudd, president and chief operating officer of Churchill Downs Inc.; Kip Levin, the CRO of Betfair US/TVG; and Joe Wilson, president and COO of Parx Racing, representing Thoroughbred Racing Associations, which he serves as its president. With the approval of Mudd and Levin, the number of Board members rises to 15 from 13. Wilson succeeds previous TRA President Scott Wells.
Audited financial results for Fiscal Year 2017 were presented and approved, showing net revenues of $5,299, the fifth consecutive year of sustainable results for the organization. A change to the NTRA's fiscal calendar year end from Jan. 31 to Mar. 31 also received Board approval. The move was necessitated by the rescheduling of the National Horseplayers' Championship (NHC) dates from January to February, allowing both of the NTRA marquee events–the Eclipse Awards and the NHC–to fall in the same fiscal year.
